Thinking about letting go of smoking or cigarettes takes a little serious comtemplation on purpose. One cannot achieve anything with out considering all the options, the pros and cons so to speak. So ask your self and listen to your own answers.
What are the postive reasons to continue to smoke? _____________________
What do I expect to happen in the long run? __________________________
What are the consequences of smoking?_______________________ (take notes)
Do I want the end result that smoking brings?_____________________
Do I want to see what I have denied myself by smoking?_______
It takes being mindful of your thinking to do this, so, as you ask your self these next few question, notice what your mind has to say about the questions. Does it say things like "that'll never work," or "that can't happen"? What if your mind were wrong? Would you continue to listen to it or correct it?
What If?
You could forget about smoking completely.
Notice what your mind has to say about that!
What if "I wanna smoke" is just an idea and not a command?
Would you consider letting the idea go in favor of another idea or suggestion, like "I'd like a glass of water"
Could that be possible?
Now notice what your mind has to say about that!
The suggestive talking mind does just what it is supposed to do, it suggests ideas to you and you have to choose which one you want to experience.
